Medcaw “Med” Mims
Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, and Partner

to
2021
Med was a gentleman, in every way. The love he had for family and friends was constant and also boundless. His generosity was appreciated by all fortunate enough to know him. He was the first born of four children and dearly loved his sister Vivian and his two brothers Davvie and Keith. He was devoted to his life partner of 30 years, Kathryn.
Both of his parents, Warnell and David, were educated at Tuskegee University, and Med graduated from this famous Historical Black College and University (HBCU) with honors, in 1976. He was an architect, a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, and attended Mount Olivet Baptist Church, where he served on the building committee and volunteered at the shelter ministry of the church. He also worked at Acorn, a nonprofit organization where he helped with low-income people to become homeowners.
Med was a resident of Gilbert House at the end of his life and appreciated the loving care he received. He visited his partner Kathryn at Iris Park Commons every day for 15 years, including during the pandemic, when he received the designation as a compassionate caregiver for her.
